Most people use air cooling AVR while low voltage condition . Air cooling type is more comfortable and convenient indoor. Many people said oil cooling AVR is much more better in loading capacity.But if it's not high voltage condition, most engineers thought the air cooling is working much more better than oil cooling.Reasons refer to below.

The efficiency : oil-cooling ,less than 85% when full load. but air-cooling the efficiency higher than 97% under full load, there is a gap of 12%.For example 1000kVA regulator, one hour there will be a gap of 120kwh,then there is the gap of 2880 kwh each day. One month there will be 86,400 kWh, if 1$ per kwh , the oil-cooling regulator is more expensive because of extra charge up to 86,400$ per month, equivalent to the charge of buying one more regulator

Oil Cooling Type AVR

Oil-cooling regulator ,there is carbon brush inside ,after long-term working, not only the oil must be replaced, but also the brush will be carbonization and easy to catch fire, so this way it will charge more and wasted oil may cause Pollution.

Bulky oil equipment occupied large floor space, for safety reason it only can be installed outdoors, and difficult to move and reload. Transportation should be particularly careful for safety. A few years ago there was an oil spilled of oil-immersed regulator during the shipping to South Africa ,the spilled oil caused fire and resulting in casualties and some goods damaged.
